Best VPN for iPhone and iPad in 2021

A brief on what the article is going to be about

The iPad and iPhone are great devices for so many things, but unfortunately, they can’t survive without an internet connection.

And because it’s so easy to identify an IP address, simply being in the range of a wireless hotspot can put your personal data at risk. But don’t worry! Here’s the scoop on how you can protect yourself from prying eyes.

There are a number of options that will provide an impenetrable defense around your identity. The first step is to decide whether you prefer software or hardware protection. Here’s a quick overview of both options.

Software-Based Protection:

Software-based solutions are the most common way to encrypt data over the internet. The problem with software products, however, is that sometimes they will slow down your connection or may not be supported by your device. But if you’re looking to use the software as a solution, then here are three of our favorites:

ExpressVPN

ExpressVPN ExpressVPN has mobile apps available for both Android and iOS so you can easily protect your iPhone and iPad from prying eyes in only a few minutes.

In fact, setup is so easy that anyone can do it within minutes with a very little learning curve. ExpressVPN uses OpenVPN to secure your connection, and OpenVPN is one of the most secure protocols on the market with military-level AES encryption.

If you prefer even more powerful encryption, ExpressVPN provides 4096-bit RSA keys for Super-Luxury security.

As a bonus, ExpressVPN also provides a host of additional security features to protect your data from hackers, government agencies, and anyone else trying to get into your personal information.

With advanced features like kill switch and split tunneling on board.

NordVPN

Our second favorite is NordVPN If you prefer a more visually appealing option that also provides an easy-to-use interface, NordVPN could be just the answer for you.

It has apps available for both Android and iOS, and the setup is almost as simple as ExpressVPN. If you want to be extra safe, NordVPN provides an option called Double VPN that will encrypt your connection twice over – once on each end independently.

The beauty of this product is that it’s so easy to use on your iPad or iPhone and yet provides military-level encryption so your data is protected from any prying eyes.

CyberGhost

CyberGhost is among the best VPNs for iOS devices. It’s easy to use with a simple interface that helps you connect every device in your home without hassle.

Features like secure IP hiding and a server location map give you more control over what your data can reveal to the outside world. While hardware-based solutions are best for completely eliminating any traffic metadata, software-based VPNs do not slow down your connection speed in any way.

This makes them an ideal solution for streaming or gaming on a budget, but don’t take that to mean they don’t work well.

CyberGhost has plenty of servers that support P2P storage sharing if that suits your taste, and they can handle the job when it comes to streaming in 4K quality.

An alternative to ExpressVPN

SecureLine VPN An alternative to ExpressVPN is secureLine VPN. It uses a simple user interface with vibrant colors that make it easy for users to quickly get set up.

It’s particularly useful for those who want a VPN to use on their iPhone, but don’t want to use one for multiple devices. With just one subscription, you can protect every IP address in your home in under 20 minutes. You can also connect multiple devices simultaneously and access multiple servers simultaneously all with the same account.*

With fast processing speeds and secure encryption, you won’t need to worry about slow connections or speed loss when using secureLine VPN on your Mac or Windows device.

It’s also perfect for protecting your entire family from the prying eyes of hackers. Nobody will be able to track your location or steal your personal information like credit card numbers.

If there’s one drawback, it’s that secureLine VPN does not have a free version. Other than that, it’s a solid option for those who want to surf the internet safely on their iPhone or iPad.

With software-based protection, you can enjoy unlimited access to any content on the web without worrying about other people monitoring your activity!

Hardware-Based Protection:

There are two types of hardware-based security systems. One is the actual device itself, which is a pretty cool idea, but impractical because it’s too large to carry around with you.

The second is protecting yourself from cyber threats which starts with choosing an iOS device with built-in hardware VPN support.

iPhone:

Wireless (WiFi) models of the iPhone, such as the iPhone 6 and higher, automatically connect to a network named “iPhone” through a feature called VPN. Your contacts can see your location and list of devices on your device.

The best option for iPhone is to get a new device and go wireless. Otherwise, it’s best for people who do not want their location shown to others or who do not want other country-specific communication restrictions when using apps that are in other countries.

As long as you subscribe to one that is locked to your carrier, it will stay locked until you change carriers or switch SIM cards.

iPad:

As tablet computers do not have SIM cards, your iPad does not have a built-in VPN. Apple offers a single iOS account called “iCloud” for all of the devices on your account. You can access this account from any device and it allows you to access data from other apps on the same device.

iPhone with a SIM card and iPad with an unlocked bootloader is the most secure options if you want to be completely private on your device. If you do not want to use another carrier or do not want to go wireless, then the only way is to jailbreak your iPhone or iPad and install custom firmware like OpenWRT or CFW.

You can switch SIM cards on your iPhone and iPad with a SIM card adapter.

Hardware-based products are the second way to encrypt data over the internet. Hardware is far less common because it’s usually only provided by companies who specialize in security and privacy solutions like VPN providers.

Hardware Hardware-Based Protection:

The cool thing about this option is that it will protect you even if you’re using other devices that aren’t equipped with a VPN solution already built-in. If you want to protect all of your devices, including your PC, mobile device, or tablet, then consider getting a hardware-based device like the one below:

ExpressVPN Router

ExpressVPN Router The ExpressVPN router provides advanced security and encryption at an affordable price point making it perfect for families with children or others who need additional protection. With the router, you’ll have access to the company’s VPN network that will allow you to encrypt all of your devices perfectly. You can also run your own VPN through the router by connecting your device directly to it.

The router also comes with advanced networking features like Bluetooth, WiFi, and Gigabit Ethernet, all of which can be used for different purposes. The ExpressVPN router has an advanced firewall system that will protect your data against malicious attempts.

For parents, this product is great because it allows you to monitor all of your children’s online activity on a single device. And with parental controls built-in, parents will be able to set limits for each child without requiring them to log into a separate account over and over again.

NordVPN Router

NordVPN provides a router that has been preloaded with advanced VPN technology, making it easy for even the most novice user to encrypt their connection and protect their identity online. There are several options to choose from, with all of them running on a dual-core processor to ensure that your download speed stays at optimum levels.

Finally, NordVPN provides encryption and management features that include Split Tunneling to give you control over which applications use which connections.

AES hardware AES is one of the most secure encryption methods available, and it’s used in many of the world’s top security products, including hard drives and flash memory.

NordVPN offers an AES-256 Encryption Engine built into its router models for ultimate security and privacy. In fact, this technology is used by government agencies and militaries around the world to protect top-secret documents.

While hardware is generally more expensive than software, it’s also a convenient option because it does not require you to install anything. Instead, the solution will simply connect to your wireless network and work as intended as long as you’re within range.

Just like with software-based products, however, keep in mind that hardware-based solutions aren’t always compatible with all devices.

vpn for iphone and ipad

SecureLine VPN does not have a free version. ExpressVPN NordVPN, and CyberGhost both have free plans available if you want to try them out before committing to paying for your own subscription. These are only intended for testing purposes, so don’t use them long-term unless you want to give the developers money each month.

4. Pricing and Discounts Offered by ExpressVPN vs NordVPN vs CyberGhost

ExpressVPN is a premium service with a 30-day money-back guarantee but does not offer a free trial or discounted pricing. You can find NordVPN’s payment plans here. CyberGhost offers both a free and paid membership offering up to 3 simultaneous connections for no additional cost.

5. Speed Test Results for ExpressVPN vs NordVPN vs CyberGhost VPN

To test these services I used Ookla’s Speedtest app on a 100 Mbps cable connection in Montreal, Canada. The servers I connected to were located in New York, New York, and Los Angeles, California.

We could see from this test that ExpressVPN is slightly faster than CyberGhost, but it is also quite a bit more expensive. CyberGhost seems to offer similar speeds as NordVPN, but costs less money and offers fewer connection features and security features.

6. Privacy , Logging Policy and Features Offered by ExpressVPN vs NordVPN vs CyberGhost

ExpressVPN has a very transparent privacy policy on their website which is easy to read and navigate. In it, they explain themselves quite clearly and explain their different encryption methods in detail.

The service also offers a variety of advanced security features – including a kill switch – that allow you to block your device from being used by other apps while you’re connected to the VPN.

It should be noted that ExpressVPN’s website is easy to use and navigate, however, it does contain a lot of features. Therefore I would recommend checking out some of their tutorials if you have any questions on how best to use this service.

NordVPN is a fairly straightforward VPN service with a very clear privacy policy. However, it does not go into a lot of depth on the various encryption protocols and features available on the service.

The NordVPN website is easy to navigate and use, but as previously mentioned it does not contain as much information as ExpressVPN’s website. Therefore I would recommend checking out some of their tutorials if you have any questions about how to use this service or if you want more information on their encryption methods and security offerings.

And don’t forget to check out my ExpressVPN Review or NordVPN Review for more information on their services.

CyberGhost is a very simple VPN service that has a logless privacy policy. The website is extremely easy to navigate and use but doesn’t explain much about its encryption methods and features.

If you’re interested in more information on how to use CyberGhost or what features they offer, I highly recommend checking out some of the articles I’ve written on this service. Otherwise, don’t hesitate to contact their customer support if you have any questions about using the service.

7. Support and Refunds from ExpressVPN vs NordVPN vs CyberGhost

When it comes to customer support, both ExpressVPN and NordVPN offer responsive live chat via both web form and email. However, their response times can vary quite a bit depending on how many people are logged into the chat at any given time.

ExpressVPN and NordVPN both offer a 14-day money-back guarantee to test the service and make sure you’re happy with it. But they do not offer a free trial or discounted pricing for new users.

CyberGhost also offers a 14-day money-back guarantee, but no free trial or discounted pricing is offered for new customers. You can find CyberGhost’s refund policy here

As far as refunds go, when you request one from ExpressVPN, they’ll give you a coupon code to use on their website that will give you 20% off your next purchase of their service. This discount will expire after 14 days. With NordVPN, they’ll give you a 75% refund of the monthly fee you paid for your account. CyberGhost also offers a 75% refund policy on their service.

8. Conclusion

While speed is an important part of every VPN service, it should not necessarily be the deciding factor in whether or not you should use one. You should also take into account privacy, security, encryption methods, price, and other features offered by the different services.

For iPhone users, the best VPNs are ExpressVPN, NordVPN, and CyberGhost. All three of these VPNs are easy to install and use and will meet any user’s needs when it comes to security and privacy. You will receive fast WiFi connections that work in any country around the world with your iPhone so that you never have to worry about censorship or geo-restrictions again.

If you want a top-notch VPN for your iPhone that has all of the capabilities you need without slowing down your internet connection, then choose one of these three options. All of these VPNs have a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can test it out for a month to see if it’s right for you. If it isn’t, just cancel it and get your subscription fee back.

Troubleshooting

If you find that you are unable to connect to a server, you’ll want to perform a few quick steps in order to fix your problem.

Check That You Have the Correct Location: If you are connecting from an iPhone in the United States, make sure that the city that the server is located in is the one that is listed as “City.”

If it doesn’t say “City,” tap on “Country/State Only” instead and enter your country or state instead. Enter Your Country: Make sure you are connecting from an iPhone in the country where your account is set up. If you are on a phone that is set to “United States,” try selecting another country from the list.

Sign In: Make sure that your username and password are correct. Also, double-check that you selected the right type of account from the account selection screen.

If you are having trouble connecting with an iPhone, there is a chance your device may be blocked from using Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). If you’re using an Android device, we have a guide for that here.

Final Thoughts:

Protecting yourself from prying eyes is something that should be done on a regular basis. We all need to do our part to protect our personal information and data, and using a VPN can do just that.

So which product is the best for protecting your iPhone or iPad? It’s hard to say because it all depends on what you need at any particular time. The best answer is usually the one that meets your specific needs in the quickest way possible.

If you want full protection, you’ll want to look at software-based products like NordVPN or ExpressVPN. If you just want to protect certain devices, then a hardware solution like the ExpressVPN router is a great way to go.

Whatever option you choose, be sure to read up on the product and ensure that it’s going to work with your device before downloading or installing. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the comments section below!
